When a teacher decided to become a baker, little did she know that it was a journey of entrepreneurship that would become a generational business. Established in 1997, Josie’s Cuppa Cappuccino was named after Mrs. Josephine Andoh to honor the risk she took by starting a catering business called Phines Golden Toast in the late 70s. The bakery expanded and opened a café in the city center called Cool Corner Café and that was the true genesis of Cuppa Cappuccino.
Although Cool Corner Café had to close down at the peak of its success due to the landlord’s refusal to extend the lease, many years later a small café was built in front of the Andoh property in the Airport Residential Area by her daughter Franka-Maria Andoh.
Although the beginnings were slow and challenging, God’s grace pertained and in 2015, Ventures Africa listed Josie’s Cuppa Cappuccino as one of the leading cafés in Africa. In 2015, the company also became a Limited Liability Company comprising an extraordinary board of Directors.
We hosted the first Sandwich festival in Ghana with amazing array of sandwiches and special cocktails
Out of steady growth, Cuppa Cappuccino birthed the Antique Lemonade Gallery and the Antique Lemonade Concept Store a few years after. The AL gallery serves as a hub encouraging creatives and artistes to share their work and unique stories. The AL concept store evolved into a lifestyle store selling unique items to make life colorful.
After launching the Most Def Foundation in 2020, Cuppa became pioneers in promoting a culture of inclusivity at the work place. In our 25th year of business, Cuppa Cappuccino trained 4 deaf staff to encourage and maximize the potential of deaf youth living within the Ghanaian society. We currently stand possibly as the first café in Ghana to hire a deaf barista.
